Ryugu Co., Ltd. | 龍宮株式会社

Ukiha, Fukuoka, Japan

Ryugu Co., Ltd., based in Yoshii, Ukiha City, is a long-standing manufacturer of bedding products, established in 1947. Originally focused on medical-grade cotton and gauze, the company shifted its direction when its founder, Reiichiro Kakehashi, who suffered from atopic dermatitis, set out to create bedding that would be truly gentle on the skin. After nearly a decade of development, their signature product “Pasima” was born in 1992.

Pasima is a washable quilted textile made from medical-grade absorbent cotton and gauze. With every wash, it becomes softer and more absorbent, offering excellent breathability in the summer and warmth in the winter. It was the first bedding in Japan to receive the strictest Class I certification under the international OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, ensuring it is safe even for newborn babies.
At the heart of Pasima is a philosophy of true well-being. Its concept is based on the traditional Japanese practice of “te-ate”—the belief that creating a clean and supportive environment promotes healing without relying on medicine. For many people struggling with persistent skin conditions and allergies that resist medical treatment, Pasima has become an indispensable part of daily life, gaining an enthusiastic following across Japan.

The company is deeply committed to quality. Their cotton undergoes a two-day refining and washing process to eliminate impurities thoroughly. All products are made in-house, ranging from bedding to masks, towels, and baby goods.
Ryugu also actively supports the local community. Since 2013, every newborn in Ukiha receives a Pasima blanket as a welcome gift. The company has been recognized by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry as a "Regional Future Leading Company," underscoring its role in sustaining both regional culture and health-focused innovation.
