Art pieces using dried plants
Sugi Akihiko took over the family business of a flower shop and also started teaching flower arrangement classes. Instead of disposing of withered flowers handled in the store, he began creating art objects with them. Visitors who come to the shop once a week are surprised to see new artworks added each time.
Akihiko combines his own drawings, clay works, and withered plants to create delicate pieces with a unique worldview, evoking a slightly lonely yet gentle character. “I can’t stop creating. But as I use flowers, I’ve started to think that even when plants wither, their beauty remains complete,” he says.
Recently, his works combining everyday materials such as paper, tape, wire, and rusty cans have been increasing.
